Postdigital Cultural Youth Worlds

Development of New Methods for Research in Aesthetic, Arts and Cultural Education in a Digital and Postdigital World

The use of new media has changed dramatically in recent years. Today, digital networks, mobile gadgets, apps and algorithms are increasingly permeating the lifeworlds of children and young people. Where this is not yet the case, it will happen in the near future. This shift, which profoundly and in many ways impacts cultural frameworks as well as aesthetic and artistic practices currently has been described as the “postdigital condition” (Jörissen).

The conditions of cultural participation and education change significantly in a postdigital world. The project aims at examining in detail for the first time how transformations in digital media are affecting the current artistic-creative practice of young people.

This research is a joint project between the Institut für Bildung und Kultur e.V. (ibk) and the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg with support by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF).
